Let’s launch their lifelong love of learning together. Contact us to visit Celebree School of Nottingham!
Michael and Katie Young are the owners of the Celebree school of Nottingham. Michael and Katie both grew up in Harford County and had been friends since Elementary school. In 2003, Katie graduated from Villa Julie College with her degree in Early Childhood Education. While at Villa Julie, you could find Katie on the attack end of the lacrosse field. After graduating, Katie knew she wanted to give back to her community and began coaching basketball and lacrosse at Joppatowne High School. She concluded her coaching career by winning a State Basketball Championship.
Although their roads may have deviated from one another, Katie and Michael reconnected again while playing co-ed flag football. In 2014 Michael and Katie were married and started growing their family. They now have 4 children who keep their hands and hearts full. (Benjamin, John, Reed, and Josephine).
Katie will be actively involved in all operations of Celebree School of Nottingham and is committed to using her skills from her professional background to serve the community of Nottingham and make the Celebree School of Nottingham a place to “protect, educate and nurture.”. Katie has been in the childcare industry for over 11 years and has been employed with Celebree School, as a School Director for the past 9 years.
Michael will continue his career with Johnson Controls, as a Virginia field foreman. Although you may not see him daily, he will be very involved behind the scenes helping to keep our school in top shape!
Michael and Katie both believe in building a school atmosphere that is not only fun, but also feels like family and is eager to create this environment in the Nottingham community.
In their spare time, you can find them on the sideline of a soccer, football, or baseball field. Katie is hopeful that one day she can add the lacrosse field to that list. Their favorite hobby, however, is slowing life down and enjoying the simple things with family and friends.
My name is Amanda Portier, and I am the school director at the Celebree School of Nottingham. I hold my master’s degree in early childhood education curriculum and instruction from the University of Concordia. I believe that children learning through play will lead to being successful in multiple areas of their educational journey. I chose Celebree because I believe that everyone big or small should have the opportunity to grow and work towards their goals. Early childhood educators are one of the many builders and helpers in a child’s journey through life, and I am grateful to play key role in that.
My promise at our school is to provide an environment that will protect, educate, and nurture all families that come through our doors. I have had the exciting opportunity to teach in a variety of early childhood environments, both for profit and non-profit, in over five states, and I am thrilled to continue my journey to grow big here at Celebree. Something fun about myself is that my husband, who is in the Coast Guard, has provided me the opportunity to live, teach and explore Hawaii, Alaska, Washington, New Jersey, Alabama, and now Maryland. We have two loving cats and a crazy turtle, named Tick-Tock. Outside of the classroom, I spend my time with my husband finding new outdoor activities or just taking a relaxing moment inside. My promise is to uphold the Celebree mission and vision each and every day for all of the members in our Nottingham community!
